UGM Contingent is currently preparing to participate in the final competition Gemastik 9 held at the University of Indonesia on 27 to 29 October 2016. From the 35 UGM participants who has been qualified for the finals, 26 participants coming from the Computer Science department. 12 teams who will go to Depok previously have passed the first and second preliminary round beating participants from other universities in Indonesia.
Gemastik is a program of the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DP2M) DIKTI as an effort to improve the quality of students so that they can act as agents of change in promoting ICT and its utilization in Indonesia. The competition is expected to increase the creativity of students in the development of Information and Communication Technology at the National level.
This is the 9th year Gemastik activities held since 2007. In this year, Gemastik 9 come up with the theme “Enabling the Smart Society Through ICT”. Gemastik 9 main event will be held on 27-29 October 2016 at the University of Indonesia, Depok. The event in Gemastik 9 consists of a competition of ICT, Seminar, Exhibition of works of finalists Gemastik 9 and sponsors, as well as the Cultural and Performing Arts.
Competitions that are contested at Gemastik 9 are Programming, Software Development, Data Mining, Network Security and Information Systems, Animation, Smart Devices and Embedded System, User Experience Design, ICT Business Development, Games Application Development, and e-Government.
Gemastik Bootcamp has been prepared by the committee contingent of UGM to motivate the participants to give their best for UGM in this event. Gemastik Bootcamp will feature speakers and lecturers so that the finalists can consult with those who are experts in their field. Contingent Committee hoped UGM can achieve 1st winner in this competition.
Indonesian delegation successfully brought four medals at the 23rd International Mathematics Competition 2016. The event took place on 25-31 of July 2016 at the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) in Blagoevgard, Bulgaria. In this competition, Indonesian contingent were able to bring four silver medals.
In this international competition, Indonesia had sent nine students, three of whom are from Universitas Gadjah Mada. One representative of UGM was Erwin Eko Wahyudi, who is a Computer Science student, while the two remaining representatives come from department of Mathematics.
Before leaving for Bulgaria, Erwin had first participated other competition, namely OSN, a domestic and national level of the Mathematics Olympiad. At the national level, Erwin won the gold medal.
It wasn’t enough for Erwin to participate just competitions at domestic level, after that Erwin had to participate strict selection until finally passed and go forward to represent Indonesia. The international mathematics competition is held once a year and has recorded approximately 450 participants from various countries competing each other. Erwin himself finally gained honorable mention in the competition.
“Feeling good, I hadn’t previously been in the international competition as prestigious as the IMC’s.”, Erwin said.
Universitas Gadjah Mada delegations successfully won 7 medals in Dinas Pendidikan, Pemuda, dan Olahraga (Dikpora) National Science Olympiad that was held on 27th -29th September 2016 at Mercubuana University, Yogyakarta. In this competition, UGM contingent dominated medals achievement and brought home 3 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
One of Computer Science student, Muhammad Ihsan (2015) came 5th position in Mathematics in this competition. Although he didn’t get a medal in this competition, he should be appreciated because in the region OSN, he won silver medal in Mathematics. The region OSN was held on September 3rd 2016 at Universitas Teknologi Yogyakarta.
OSN Dikpora was held on 27th -29th September at Universitas Mercubuana and Sahid Raya Hotel, Yogyakarta. Two hundreds students from 26 universities in Indonesia participated this competition. Of all the participants, 44 students participate in Physics, 38 students in Chemistry, 54 students in Biology, and 64 in Mathematics.
On September 18th 2016, a team from Computer Science Universitas Gadjah Mada successfully won Capture the Flag (CTF) Competition as the 2nd winner. This competition was held by Compfest8 in University of Indonesia. The deadf00d team which members are M. Rizky Irfianto (2014), Randy Kusuma Putra (2015), and Axel (2015), managed to reach the podium after they got higher score than hundreds other teams.
Compfest is an annual event held by Computer Science Faculty of Universitas Indonesia. In this event, there are many IT competition to bring innovation and useful things for people, IT exhibition, seminar about IT, and Internet of Things Academy and Startup Academy to boost Indonesian youth creativity.
One of the competition in Compfest8 is in the field of Business IT. In this competition, participants are challenged to solve business problems with an innovative solution in information and technology approach. Competitive Programming Contest which challenges the participants to solve a problem using a program in a limited time and memory.
There is also Hackathon Comfest 8 themed: “A Mission to Help SME’s” with a unique concept of the competition, which is an application development competition that challenges the participants to build an application in 24 hours to solve Small Medium Enterprise (SDE) problems in Indonesia. They also have an Indie Game Ignite Competition for indie game developer to build a game without certain theme limitation.
Capture the Flag itself is a competition in network and information security field to test the skill and knowledge of the participants in terms of security assessment and vulnerability exploitation of many problems categories. Capture the Flag in Compfest 8 was themed Jeopardy CTF concept with problems from many kinds of fields lsuch as web hacking, steganography, cryptography, forensic, reverse engineering, and binary exploitation.
